Dec 27, 2006
A strange time of year at the best of times but after all the fog
last week, it has been heavily overcast for days so it has hardly
got light which adds even more to the feeling that we are in limbo.
What's more, no picture this week. It hasn't ben light enough!
At least it has been dry for a few days, indeed so much so that
I've been able to get out and cut the lawns and paths in the
garden. How rock and roll is that? That's a first, pushing the
lawnmower around the garden on Boxing Day!
PMN is full of surprises. Lots of great new music and over half of
this week's tracks are SnC Firstplays. Strange, I'd have thought
that most podcasters with day-jobs would be trawling the PMN while
they have time.

Riverlady - divineMAGgees
(North Carolina, USA) FIRST PLAY
divineMAGgees (pronounced "Maggies") have created a provocative,
unique sound. Cregan and Danielle make:
"sweet, dreamy alt-folk rock that
draws on everything from bluegrass to punk to jazz, intertwining
acoustic and electric guitars and fiddles with their perfectly
matched, harmonious vocals." (Curve Magazine).
Riverlady is taken from the divineMAGgees album
Love me like the roses.
If you want to see the duo in action (and I do!) there are some
gigs coming up and there's a video on their MySpace page.

Out on a limb - Holiday and the
Adventure Pop Collective (California, USA)
FIRST

The colorfully-monikered, San Diego-based ensemble has already won
enthusiastic acclaim for its "Adventure Pop" sound, displayed on
indie releases and in their notoriously crazy sexy sun-rock infused
live performances. This track is from their album

Dancing with Joey Ramone - Amy
Rigby (New York, USA)
I think its unprecedented to play tracks by the same artist two
weeks running but the case for the exception is well made by Amy
Rigby. See last week's show notes for more info.
This track is taken from the album
Little Fugitive.

Universo - Ze Sao Paulo
(Brazil)
FIRST PLAY
I must admit to being unsure whether this really is Ze Sao Paulo
because the MP3 tags show the artist as Bala N'agulha. Perhaps your
Portugese is better than mine and you"ll be able to tell me what
these notes say.

One happy family - Riboflavin
(California, USA)
They would describe themselves as 'schizophrenic rockers' - not
because they suffer from any specific mental illness. Its simply
because they refuse to be boxed into a specific genre, in one song
they can be thoughtful and serious, both musically and lyrically -
in another they produce a rabble rousing ro... and
there they ran out of characters on the PMN bio space!
Riboflavin describe themselves as 4 dishevelled gentlemen:
Sir. Conan Doyle
Felonious Punk
Alabama
Flog the Dolphin
The band are on Criminal Recordz
Nearly a Suffolk'n'Cool firstplay but beaten to it last week by
Pete Cogle over at
PC Podcast.

That's it for this week, indeed for this year. See you in 2007 (or
next Wednesday).
