Independent music from Missouri, Italy, Sweden, Illinois, New
York, France and London.
The frogs are into a bit of a major croak-fest here at the barn,
hundreds are rushing headlong to the top pond here at the Barn.
Some, like this handsome chap, (right) even think it a good idea to
head into the house.
Two highly contrasting live music events over the last week.
Thursday evening was spent at
The Brickmakers in Norwich. A
real live music venue with two bars and (at least on Thursday last
week) two bands. One free show in the main bar then B2 was the
place to catch the Eric and Amy Show. The Cutting Crew are playing
there on riday 23rd March.
Friday was a Latin evening at Framlingham College here in Suffolk.
What a contrast - a school performance and with some
astounding talent on display.
Outstanding performances by dozens of students. Among the many
talents were Laura Wright, already an established singer with
"All
Angels". Ollie Poole's confident virtuosity was breathtaking,
switching from instrument to instrument and with a great singing
voice. A little more time and some street level experience will
make him a name to seriously watch out for.

Out of my reach - Froid
(Stockholm, Sweden)
Froid originally sprung out of Huddinge, a suburb of Stockholm,
Sweden. Formed in the fall of 2001 it took us a few years to work
out the directions of our beloved project. In fall of 2003 we
hooked up with Brady Blade, which eventually led to Froid signing
up with Bricktop.

Count to 10 - Laura Hughes
(Illinois, USA)
Laura Hughes' debut album includes songs about "the gray areas in
life- finding confidence in insecurity, wholeness in feeling
broken, and a sense of wonder in confusion," and is due out in
2007.
Laura lives in New York, where she sleeps on the couch in a small
Upper East Side apartment that is overflowing with love and way too
many roommates. (6 girls, 2 bedrooms.) She is spending the spring
in LA studying with Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet
and Oscar-nominee William H. Macy, while incessantly writing and
prepping for a spring/summer tour and EP release.

Bum Rush The Charts
On March 22nd, 2007 we are going to strike fear into the hearts of
the music industry and make an independent music artist #1 on
iTunes. Podcasting and in dependent music gets little respect from
traditional media. To them we're little more than a joke, than
amateurs. What they don't understand is that podcasting is more
than just a delivery mechanism - it's a social movement. People are
sick of the watered-down, cookie-cutter content that networks and
record companies expect us to enjoy. People are tired of watching
friends and loved ones get sued by record labels who only care
about profits and nothing else, not even the artists they
supposedly represent. We want and deserve more. Now, we're going to
change that together.
On March 22nd, we are going to take an indie podsafe music artist
to number one on the iTunes singles charts as a demonstration of
our reach.
The track we've chosen is "Mine Again" by the band Black Lab. A
band that was dropped from not just one, but two major record
labels (Geffen and Sony/Epic) and in the process forced them to
fight to get their own music back.
If you believe in the power of new media, on March 22nd, 2007, take
99 cents and 2 minutes of your time to join the revolution and make
iTunes "Mine Again".
On a 99 cent purchase of an RIAA artist:
- 19 cents goes to Apple
- 75 cents goes to the label
- 5 cents goes to the artist
On a 99 cent purchase of Mine Again on March 22:
- 14 cents goes to Apple
- 5 cents goes to the scholarship fund directly
- 40 cents goes to the band
- 40 cents goes to the scholarship fund via Black Lab's
donation

Shimdiggy - Romashka (New
York)
I played Romashka back in September and this is their new release
to the Podsafe Music Network
This NY-based band was born in the fall of 2003. Roaming from cafes
and all-night jams, to apartment parties and subway stops, the band
quickly catapulted to pulsating clubs and underground parties,
drawing a loyal following from downtown party revellers to
outer-borough-dwelling ethnic communities.

The trouble with Jeanie - Amy
Rigby (France)
Wreckless Eric and Amy Rigby have been delighting and confounding
audiences from New York to Norwich. Combining several decades of
critically acclaimed records and failed relationships, Eric and Amy
join forces in "The Eric & Amy Show." With twice the jaded
romanticism, two times the honest observation and double the
musical enthusiasm, together and separately they perform their
should-be, could-be and has-been hits, accompanying each other on
harmonies, guitars, bass and keyboards.
I caught up with them on the second UK leg of their current tour
which ended last night at Spitz in Spitalfields Market, London.

Rockall - The Young Punx
(London, UK)
Played "You've got to" a couple of weeks ago now Rockall is
getting lots of media attention. Based on samples taken from the
BBC shipping forecast which is broadcast to mariners every night.
Very clever editing of the forecast to get it to say something
quite different. If you are not familiar with the names of sea
areas around the eastern Atlantic ocean - take a look at a map and
listen to the current shipping forecast at
